Anniversaries is an original project built around two converging elements: the anniversaries of the composers presented (centenary of Ligeti, sixtieth anniversary of Hindemith’s death and the birth of Fitkin and thirtieth of Zappa’s death) and the presence in their catalogs of pieces written for this ensemble, considered both in its integrity and in its modularity.
The result is a varied program that ranges from Ligetian innovations, to Hindemithian magic counterpoint, from Fitkin’s minimalist and propulsive sonority to an excerpt from Zappa’s masterpiece, The Yellow Shark, the last album released before his death.
Anniversaries è un originale progetto costruito intorno a due elementi convergenti: gli anniversari dei compositori presentati (centenario di Ligeti, sessantesimo della morte di Hindemith e della nascita di Fitkin e trentesimo della morte di Zappa) e la presenza nei loro cataloghi di brani scritti per questa formazione cameristica, considerata sia nella sua integrità che nella sua modularità.
Ne risulta un programma variegato che spazia dalle innovazioni ligetiane, alle magie contrappuntistiche hindemithiane, dalle sonorità minimaliste e propulsive di Fitkin fino ad un estratto dal capolavoro di Zappa, The Yellow Shark, ultimo album pubblicato prima della morte.
